While getting behind the wheel is a right enjoyed by many teens, for some it is no less than a passion. And there are many reasons about passionate driving that keep people coming back for more. Recently, a PAN India expedition by the name ‘Cross Country Run’ was hosted by Arjuna Awardee Deepa Malik for the betterment of society. The 3400 kilometer expedition was started by Deepa from Chennai to Delhi, where 9 different cities in ‘Incredible India’ were explored in 9 days.
Cross Country Run With Renault Duster
The expedition was not just about different cultures, landscapes, food and languages, but also about experiencing the French machine, Renault Duster RxL 110PS on typical Indian roads. The powerful 1.5 litre K9K diesel engine that gives a maximum power output of 108.5 bhp along with 248 Nm torque gave a good mileage of 15 – 18 kmpl at an average speed of 90 km/h. The best part about Duster was the road clearance of 205 mm, which proved as a savior, especially on Indian roads. All the bad stretches during the journey were cleared with ease.
Renault-ing Experience
The memorable yet exhausting experience started on National Highway 4. The indicator lever and wiper controls, which are usually on right and left, respectively are positioned on opposite sides in this compact SUV. This took a little time to adjust. Similarly, the audio controls below the steering wheel also created a little confusion initially, but Deepa slowly got used to its functions.
Being a compact car, it was expected that the clutch would be lighter, but it was heavy. There was also a turbo lag below 1750 rpm, but when the rpm was increased, the punch could be easily felt, which is usually required while driving on highways. The monocoque chassis, great driving dynamics and powerful suspension helped drive very well on wet roads, especially on the way to Mumbai. The integrated music system with AUX and USB connectivity kept all the people entertained throughout the drive.
Incredible India & the French Machine
In this expedition, Deepa drove through Bangalore, Hubli, Belgaum, Pune, Lonavala, Dhaboli, Mumbai, Nashik, Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Badnawar, Badnagar, Neemuch, Udaipur, Jaipur, Behror, Neemrana and Manesar. The compact SUV Duster proved to be a comfortable drive on some of the best and worst roads. The overall experience of Cross Country Run was amazing, absolutely fun-filled and the French Machine proved itself to be a powerful Duster.
